April 22nd 2021 - Starter Release Notes 0.5.0

Bulk metadata editing (Starter Plus users only)

We have enhanced this feature since the last release.  You can now edit Dublin Core or MODS descriptive metadata for any assets in your folders or subfolders.

Within Explorer select a folder or multi-select* the folders you want to edit, then right-click to display the Bulk Edit Metadata options Choose Step1: Bulk add metadata template, this will add metadata templates to all the assets in your folder selection. This process can take a while, please allow up to 12 hours depending on the number of templates to be added before proceeding to Step 2 – Bulk edit metadata template.

Step 1: Bulk add metadata template

Step 2:

In the second step you will be editing the template you have created. You can either update, find or replace, or clear fields in the Dublin Core or MODS template. You need to apply actions to a single metadata field at a time.

You can only add the metadata templates and edit from the folder level, you can’t apply bulk metadata editing directly to the assets. You need to move all assets for bulk editing into a folder or folders and then apply your changes.

Tip: *to multi-select items hold down the shift-key and then click on the item to select it, repeat until you have completed your selection.

Add thumbnails to folders and assets

As an archivist you spend a lot of time and effort curating your folders and assets. With this new feature you can choose the most suitable thumbnail for your digital object. Just right‑click on your folder or asset and choose Change thumbnail from the Actions menu.

The Change Thumbnail dialog displays showing you a preview of the existing thumbnail if applied and you can choose to upload a file from your computer that will be used as a thumbnail. Please note that supported image formats are png, jpeg, tiff, and gif. The image must be 10MB or less. If you change your mind, you can always reset the image back to the original, provided there was a thumbnail to begin with.

Ingest and rendering of email formats and ContentDM packages

You are now able to preserve email file formats such as PST, EML and MBOX files in Starter. A .pst (Personal Storage Table) file is a special file type created by Microsoft for their Outlook email app.  EML is a file extension for an email message saved to a file in the Internet Message Format protocol for electronic mail messages, and MBOX is a generic term for a family of related file formats used for storing collections of electronic mail messages. We have also added support for CONTENTdm packages
